Wrexham director names 'fantastic' Liverpool player who would be his DREAM signing

Wrexham executive director Humphrey Ker says he’d love to have one ‘fantastic’ Liverpool signing at his club.

Wrexham earned another promotion this season – they’re going to be a League One team in the next campaign. Their sights are higher than that, though, and this is a club that hopes to make it to the Premier League one day.

And that had executive director Humphrey Ker answering questions on ‘dream’ signings this week. Funnily enough, he mentioned two names connected to Liverpool

The first was Neco Williams, who came up through the Reds academy before being sold to Nottingham Forest. It’s one that’s self-explanatory, really – Williams is a Welsh international playing in the Premier League. He’s a natural fit for Wrexham, even if they’re a way off from signing players of that calibre.

The second name was far less predictable: Wataru Endo. Ker feels his arrival at Liverpool was so good that it serves as a lesson to everyone.

“In terms of who’s one of my favourite players and who would I love to see playing in a Wrexham shirt? At present, I’ve got a real soft spot for Wataru Endo,” Ker told Sport Bible. “Who is kind of a perfect encapsulation of the fury in the summer when Liverpool missed out on Caicedo and Lavia and it was all doom and gloom and disaster.

“And then they sign Wataru Endo and it was like ‘well, who’s this guy? I’ve never heard of him’ he was only 16 million quid, what are they playing at? And then he’s been one of the signings of the season.”

“I think there’s a good lesson there for all of us in terms of, you know, the glitz and the glamour and the big price tags and ‘what are Liverpool doing not spending 100 million on a central midfielder’.

“It’s like, you don’t need to spend 100 million, you need to spend your money wisely, you’ve got to find and identify the best players. I don’t know Wataru Endo from Adam but you can see he’s got fantastic character. He’s got a fantastic work ethic, you see in the interactions, the pictures and the other players, they clearly all really like him and he’s done an unbelievable job there. So yeah, if money is no object and the player does not particularly mind about moving to North Wales. I’m a big fan of his.”

Endo was a revelation this season, performing well above expectations considering he was a third or fourth-choice signing. He’s achieved things we haven’t seen in nearly two decades, while some of his stats earlier in the campaign were incredible.

There is a sense that he’s hit his limit as a player at Liverpool but at the same time, it’s clear the 31-year-old was affected by the Asian Cup midway through the season. It’ll be interesting to see how a pre-season helps him.

Though, Endo must also impress a new manager – likely Arne Slot. His debut season has been a successful one but it’s not going to get any easier from here.
