Woody Allen, 86, looks smart in a navy jumper and brown trousers as he departs hotel with wife Soon-Yi Previn, 51, after filming new thriller in Paris

Woody Allen departed his hotel with his wife Soon-Yi Previn in Paris on Sunday.

The director, 86, was seen in the French capital as filming began for his latest thriller, Wasp 22, after he confirmed he had ‘no intention of retiring’ upon its completion.

He put on a smart display in a navy jumper with a pale purple shirt layered underneath, along with brown corduroy trousers.

The filmmaker completed his look with brown trainers, along with a coordinating bucket hat and black glasses.

He held hands with his daughter Bechet, 23, who he shares with Soon-Yi, 51. She cut a chic figure in a navy dress while carrying a grey scarf.

Soon-Yi, who is the adopted daughter of Woody’s ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow, looked trendy in a cream dress, while accessorising with a white-and-black necklace.

Mia and Woody had been together since 1979, but that all changed 13 years later when Woody, then 55, and Soon-Yi, then 21, were caught having an affair.

Busy bee: The director, 86, was seen in the French capital as filming began for his latest thriller, Wasp 22, after he confirmed he had ‘no intention of retiring’ upon its completion

Woody and Soon-Yi share two adopted daughters Bechet, 23, and Manzie, 22.

The New York native is in the city as he begins work on his 50th film, which he compared to his late-career work Match Point.

It comes as a representative for the director released a statement on Monday clarifying that Woody would not be retiring.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia he was quoted as saying, ‘My idea, in principle, is not to make more movies and focus on writing.’

The statement read: ‘Woody Allen never said he was retiring, nor did he say he was writing another novel.

‘He said he was thinking about not making films as making films that go straight or very quickly to streaming platforms is not so enjoyable for him, as he is a great lover of the cinema experience.’

It concluded: ‘Currently, he has no intention of retiring and is very excited to be in Paris shooting his new movie, which will be the 50th.’

The writer and director claimed the plot would be ‘exciting, dramatic and also very sinister’ and described is as something similar to the thriller Match Point, which won the Goya award for Best European Film in 2006.

In a live-streamed conversation on Instagram from June with actor Alec Baldwin — who has appeared in several of his films — the embattled writer and director alluded to his career pivot, saying ‘the thrill is gone’ due to a decline in the theatre-going experience.

‘A lot of the thrill is gone, the director admitted. ‘Now you do a movie, and you get a couple of weeks in a movie house, and then it goes to streaming or pay-per-view. It’s not the same. It’s not as enjoyable to me.’
