Woman Turns Home Depot Cabinets Into Stunning Built-in

The fact that this mom had her teenage daughter narrate this tutorial makes it just oh-so-much better. I mean, if your mom and dad figure out a way to install gorgeous cabinetry into your dining room, you have to at least show you’re a little bit excited.
And this project was definitely worth being excited for! Using basic Home Depot kitchen cabinets, these savvy parents installed a stunning built-in shelving unit that gave their family not only a ton of storage, but a base for ceiling-high bookshelves. Sure, you could always just do a stand-alone bookshelf but the wall-length units just look so much better. They become a part of the structure of your home and not just something sitting in it! We’re obsessed.
If my parents were this DIY-savvy, I’d want to voiceover their tutorials every single time. Imagine growing up in a house as beautiful as this!
Utah-based TikTok creator MacKenzie Schafer (@mackenzie_hale7) has somehow mastered the art of being a home and an avid DIYer at the same time. She has curated her gorgeous home by herself, with the assistance of her husband, and even her teenagers have to admit she’s pretty good at what she does. I mean, she cleans their rooms after all!
MacKenzie enlisted her fifteen-year-old daughter to narrate this cabinet walkthrough and honestly it’s perfect. The video shows MacKenzie and her husband working together to build and install a gorgeous built-in cabinet for their new house. We’re not sure if they’re planning to make this a dining room or living room but either way, this space has all the storage they could possibly need.
Turns out, a project like this is not super complicated! MacKenzie picked up a few basic kitchen cabinets from Home Depot as well as two wooden tabletops to fit across them. The cabinets themselves she painted a gorgeous dark green, with a clear finish of course, and while those dried, she and her husband decided to install a base frame.
This will ensure that the cabinets sit above the ground, allowing for easier access to all shelves and making cleaning just a little bit smoother. Once the cabinets were placed onto the base, the couple just needed to screw on the wooden tabletops and they were done!
3 Cheaper Ideas for Built-In Cabinetry
Now while MacKenzie paid at least $115 for each of her cabinets, we understand that is not a totally realistic price for everyone. If you want to try this out, we definitely recommend thrifting your cabinets or selecting the Hampton Bay Assembled Wall bridge Kitchen Cabinet from Home Depot, which is by comparison only $87 a piece.
Another cheaper option would be purchasing a design from the IKEA BILLY line and adding on doors separately! This would keep your costs super low and still allow you to customize the unit to your space without having to sacrifice that luxurious vibe.
