Willem-Alexander, Máxima en prinsessen aangekomen in Emmen

Koning Willem-Alexander, koningin Máxima en hun dochters Amalia, Alexia en Ariane zijn zaterdagochtend aangekomen in Emmen. Daar werden ze ontvangen door burgemeester Eric van Oosterhout en Jetta Klijnsma, de commissaris van de Koning in Drenthe. De familie viert daar de 57e verjaardag van koning Willem-Alexander.

Bij aankomst zong Bouke & The ElvisMatters Band een verjaardagslied voor de koning. Máxima zong het verjaardagslied luidkeels mee.

Ook onder anderen prins Constantijn, prinses Laurentien, prins Floris en prins Pieter-Christiaan zijn bij de viering. Oudere familieleden zoals prinses Beatrix en prinses Margriet zijn er al jaren niet meer bij. De koninklijke familie bezoekt diverse pleinen waar onder meer gedanst wordt en spellen worden gespeeld. Daarnaast zingen Bouke Scholten en Jannes voor de koning.

Voor het eerst in meer dan twintig jaar vieren de Oranjes Koningsdag in Drenthe. De laatste keer was in 2002: toen bezocht koningin Beatrix op 30 april Meppel en Hoogeveen. Beatrix koos op Koninginnedag vaak voor twee verschillende plaatsen, meestal in dezelfde provincie.
