The national team mentor has often bemoaned the lack of interaction with his colleagues in the Premier Soccer League, although not as a result of his own doing, as he tries to improve the relationship with local clubs.

Speaking ahead of Matsatsantsa hosting Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 tie tomorrow night, Hunt opened up about his sit down with Broos.

“He did do the protocols, [they] were right, they went through the PSL, I don’t know what happened from there but I met with him individually and I think he has been to a few clubs. I don’t know what the other clubs [did] but for me, he was like, come to training. So, we did meet before the Nations Cup [Africa Nations Cup] and he asked me my opinion about players and I gave him my opinion. So, that was good,” Hunt said.

For Hunt, the idea of PSL coaches and Broos getting together regularly is a no-brainer.

“I mean all the coaches that have been here from the first times when I started coaching, with Clive [Barker] and all that, that’s how Benny [McCarthy] got in the team. I got Benny [into the Bafana squad], let’s not go there. So, I think it’s very important that the national team coach have interaction with the local coaches, very important,” Hunt added.

After finally meeting, Hunt revealed his admiration of the Bafana Bafana coach, who led the team to a bronze medal at the AFCON for the first time since 2000.

“There’s nothing wrong with picking up the phone and if somebody doesn’t wanna talk to you, well that’s their problem. We did have a long chat and we met him, it was great, fantastic, very knowledgeable man. They had a great Nations Cup, so long may it continue. So, let’s try and get into the World Cup now.”
