Why was Akash Anand sacked | The Sitapur speech | First Things Fast
Pradhan Mantriji Musalman or Hindu kar sakte hai. Top election Commission Kiya ko pepakti Banda jayegi mupekte panda jayega. Just hours after Akash Alan delivered the speech in Sita Pero, Uttar Pradesh. He said a lot of other things in this 45 minute long speech. Of course, the police filed a case against him on a string of charges for attempted incite violence and violating the moral code of conduct. One week later, Mayawati sacked him as a party’s national coordinator. Why now? In this video, we’ll try and get to the bottom what is arguably the biggest mystery of this election season so far. I’m Manisha Dikhari and you’re watching First things fast. Jodi chappal Nikali Jiye Nikali Jiye or Ek juta Nikal Jiye vote. A week after this speech, Mayawati, the chief of Ujan Samajh Party, removed Akash Anand her review from his role as BS PS National Coordinator, and more important, she also removed him as the official successor until he gains Poon Paripakota or Full maturity. If you can read Hindi, I’ll advise reading the original tweets. There are three of them and the one concerning Akash Anand is the second one here. The first thought that came to my mind when I read it was the expression cut and dried. Not only did the surprise announcement came across as something that was already decided and settled, leaving no room for further discussion, which is what cut and dried means. I also thought cut and dried would be how Akash and is probably feeling at the moment. But but but he’s not even 30. This is politics and over the course of the Lok Sabha election campaign, courtesy of his rousing speeches and a string of interviews to national media, is fairly conclusively carved out of place in the hearts of the young BSP supporters. Dole started on April 6th, 2024 when Akashan kicked off the BSP’s election campaign in Uttar Pradesh. From the Nagina Lok Sabha seat, he led a whirlwind tour, rallying in key cities like Agra, Bullancher, Mathura Banaras and several others. These rallies won’t just any gatherings. They brought massive momentum to the BSP’s campaign with throngs of supporters at every stop. But then there was a twist in the tale. On April 29th, right after a rally in Sitapur in support of BSP candidate Mahendra Yadav, the local police slapped an FIR on Akash and 36 others charges violating the Electoral Code of Conduct and promoting hatred and enmity. He had been quite scathingly unparliamentary in his speech here. Akash was all set to speak in Lucknow and Kanpur on May 1st. But suddenly those events got postponed. While the BSP did not officially explain why, insider sources claim, was directly due to the FIR in a strategic pause, Akash did not just sit back. He appeared to be keeping fairly busy if you were keeping track of his affairs on X on May 1st, a post on Labours Day, May 2nd, a series of retweets out of which this one caught the eye. It’s a Mayawati speech referring to the use of bulldozers by the state government on 3rd May. A tweet commemorating International Press Freedom Day. Also on 3rd May, he spoke to PSP supporters in 15 countries including the US, France, Kuwait and Nigeria. On the 4th of May, he posted a tweet about meeting students from Aligarh Muslim University to discuss the political climate of the country in Hindi, he wrote. He explained how an atmosphere of fear is being created to intimidate the entire society and I want to assure all of you that I’m always standing with you and the issues that concern you. Also on the 4th of May, he said he met teachers from Delhi University who told him how Dalit students were being discriminated against and how teachers of a certain ideology were preventing Dalit students from pursuing pH DS in subjects of their choice. In another tweet that day, he shared an interview published by PTI on May 5th, 3rd. In the interview, he refuted allegations of BSP being AB party of the BJP while asserting that it is the only party that can check BJPC tally. He also dismissed any prospects of apologizing for a speech against the BJP he gave in Sitapur on the 5th May. No posts from the 6th to 7th, only posts commemorating routine calendar events. Then on the night of the 7th, Mayavati relieved him of his duties. Which brings us now to the question on everyones lips, particularly the young supporters of BSP. Why was Akash Anand sacked now? Many sitting in Delhi quickly went back to citing the BJPS B team argument that goes something like this. The BJP LED center has a string of cases against Mayawati that can suddenly activate using central agencies and have a sent to jail. Mayawati, who doesn’t want that, is therefore helping the BJP by not aligning with the oppositions India bloc and the Lok Sabha candidates are just there to cut votes which would have otherwise gone to India. Samajwadi Party Congress combined in walks Akash Anand and starts calling BJP names in a manner which could upset that arrangement. But more serious observers are offering a more nuanced understanding. In a piece published early Wednesday, link in the description, Ashraf Kumar Abhishek made some interesting points. Akash Ahan made use of derogatory language in his public rallies, referring to the government led by Yogi Adityanath as a government of terror. This led to a perception among BSP leaders including Mayawati. The direct confrontations with the central and state governments could jeopardize Akashs political future. Legal actions began to mount, prompting Mayawati to distance him from these issues. During a special interview with Aaj Tak, Akashan mentioned that Mayavati had emphasized the importance of his role not just within the party, but as part of the broader Bojan movement. She made it clear that there was no room for error and just as others had been removed from the position for mistakes, the same could happen to Akash as well. Akash Anand was emerging as a new focal point within the party, which made many senior leaders uncomfortable. His rallies began to attract more demand than even Mayawatis, leading to feelings of insecurity among her close associates, who then complained to her. The narrative inside the party suggested that Mayawati wanted to protect the future of the parties leadership from legal entanglements. Thus, she decided to temporarily remove Akash from his role as a national coordinator, attributing this decision to the maturity, but leaving open the possibility for his future return once the situation stabilized. If you ask me, the road ahead for Akash Anand, the BSP and his supporters may be fraught with challenges, but it is also lined with the potential for renewal and reinvigoration.
