A fire volunteer was killed while attending to a fire incident in Barangay Isla Batis, San Juan City, according to Bam Alegre’s report on Unang Balita on Wednesday.
The victim, 25-year-old CK Oliver, died when the ceiling of a burning house collapsed on him. He was rushed to a hospital where he eventually died.
“Masakit. Alaga namin ‘yan, sa amin lumaki ‘yan (It hurts because he grew up with us, we took care of him),” said Mercedes Pascual, CK’s grandmother.
The fire, which started past 5 p.m. on Tuesday and reached the third alarm, also resulted in P1.5 million worth of estimated damage.
More than 12 firetrucks responded to the fire as the area was located beside an oil depot. The fire was put out shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) has assured Oliver’s family of assistance. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
