Urgent recall for popular Lidl biscuits that 'may contain metal pieces'

Lidl Ireland has recalled a batch of popular biscuits over fears they may contain metal pieces.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued an alert on Friday over a specific batch of Tower Gate Choc Chip Cookies.

It said: “The above batch of Tower Gate Choc Chip Cookies is being recalled due to the possible presence of metal pieces. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch.”

The affected packets are 150g, have the batch code 2334902 and the best before date 14/12/2024. They have since been removed from supermarket shelves and recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.

Anyone who has the affected cookies at home can return them to any Lidl supermarket for a refund. A receipt is not required.

Lidl has apologised for any inconvenience caused. A spokesperson said: “Lidl Ireland is recalling ‘Tower Gate Choc Chip Cookies, 150g’ with batch 2334902 and a best before date of 14/12/2024, due to the possible presence of metal pieces. No other batches, or Tower Gate products are affected by this recall.

“Customers are advised not to consume the product. Instead the product can be returned to the Lidl store where it was purchased with or without a receipt. Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our Customer Services Team on 01 920 3010.”
