Martin Lewis issues Sainsbury’s warning and says ‘from March 11’

Martin Lewis has issued a warning to Sainsbury’s shoppers and said: “From March 11.” Mr Lewis, the BBC Sounds and ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show star, has warned British Airways is changing its Avios points system for Nectar card holders.

Mr Lewis warned: “Got Avios points? Currently to buy 400 Nectar pts you need 300 Avios, from 11 March British Airways changing it so same’ll cost 400 Avios. Eg 1,200 Avios now worth £8 in Sainsburys, it’ll then be just £6. So if you plan to swap do it now (Nectar to Avios rate isn’t changing)”

“PS in general its not a good way round to swap, but there are certain use cases (ie you’ve nowt else to use avios for) in which case you may as well do it when the rate is higher,” he went on. An Instagram user replied: “It would be far more useful if we could convert Avios points to either United Airmiles or IHG Priority Club points but I don’t think BA are in this to be helpful.

“Personally, I wont fly with them again until they fly transatlantic from Manchester.” Anthony said: “people who convert Avios to Nectar are robbing themselves.” On its website, Sainsbury’s says: “You can now convert your Nectar points into Avios and vice versa. All you have to do is link your Nectar and British Airways Executive Club accounts to get started.”

It adds: “Every 400 Nectar points converted is 250 Avios, and every 300 Avios is 400 Nectar points. Choose which way you’d like to convert – convert your Nectar points into Avios to spend with British Airways, or change your Avios into Nectar points to spend with Sainsbury’s, Argos and more.”

Your Nectar points are transferred instantly when converting Nectar points into Avios, or within 10 days when converting Avios into Nectar points. You can convert your points both ways – Avios to Nectar points or Nectar points to Avios.
