In an attempt to bolster trade relations between India and the UAE, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘Bharat Mart’ warehousing facility in Dubai.

UAE vice-president and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was also present at the inauguration event.

Much like China’s ‘Dragon Mart’, India’s ‘Bharat Mart’ offers a unified platform for Indian exporters to showcase a variety of products under one roof.

What Is Bharat Mart?

Scheduled to become operational by 2025, Bharat Mart is modelled after China’s ‘Dragon Mart’ and will serve as a comprehensive platform for Indian exporters to exhibit their products. Located in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) and managed by DP World, it will leverage the strategic location and logistical capabilities of the Jebel Ali port to facilitate access to international markets.

Bharat Mart will feature showrooms, offices, and warehouses, catering to a wide range of goods, from heavy machinery to perishable items. This unified platform is expected to attract importers from the UAE, providing them access to a diverse range of high-quality Indian products.

Overall, the establishment of Bharat Mart represents a strategic move to strengthen economic ties between India and the UAE, facilitating smoother trade operations and promoting Indian goods in the international market.

According to Randhir Jaiswal, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Bharat Mart is a hybrid marketplace designed to connect Indian businesses with global markets. Bharat Mart is slated to be operational by 2025.

The collaboration between India and the UAE extends beyond Bharat Mart, with 10 agreements signed in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, investments, and archival management during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted the robust bilateral trade between the two countries, which already stands at nearly USD 85 billion, making the UAE the fourth largest investor in the Indian economy.
