A section of angry Bayern Munich supporters hit back at criticism from manager Thomas Tuchel during their dire 1-0 defeat at home to Werder Bremen.
For just the second time in eight years, Bayern lost a league match on home soil without scoring a goal. Star striker Harry Kane failed to build on his incredible tally of 22 Bundesliga goals, as ex-Bayern youngster Mitchell Weiser clinched a famous result for Werder after his second-half strike flew past Manuel Neuer.
The result leaves the reigning champions seven points behind surprise league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and although Bayern have a game in hand, pressure is mounting on Tuchel after less than a year in charge. The former Chelsea managed had riled Bayern supporters following last Friday’s 3-0 win at home to Hoffenheim.
“It’s time for a home game again with enthusiasm and so on,” Tuchel bemoaned, also claiming that the late, great Franz Beckenbauer wouldn’t have wanted such an atmosphere for Bayern’s first home fixture since his death aged 78 earlier this month. That didn’t go down well with fans, who responded on Sunday.
A banner displayed at the Allianz Arena read: “A curve also thrives on protest and resistance – enthusiasm doesn’t come at the push of a button!”
Fans certainly won’t have been enthused by their side’s most recent performance, as Werder – managed by 35-year-old Ole Werner – did a job on Bayern, who last failed to win the German title as far as back 2011. Sunday’s match was just the third Bundesliga fixture that Kane has failed to score in since his £82million transfer from Tottenham in August.
Despite the hosts dominating possession and firing off a total of 22 shots, Werder were clinical and came away from the Allianz Arena with all three points. “We played as if we were 10 points ahead in the table and had a Champions League game on Tuesday,” Tuchel fumed when speaking to DAZN post-match.
“But with the results of Leverkusen, we have to show a different face. We wanted to start very aggressively and set an example straight away, but we didn’t manage to do that at any stage. We shouldn’t blame the team, but we have to find solutions, I have to find solutions. This is not our ambition.”

Earlier this week, Tuchel made headlines when he admitted that he felt more appreciated in England while he was Chelsea manager than back his home country. “Yes. Pretty simple question,” the ex-Blues boss told ESPN.
“I feel we are very critical of each other in Germany, especially with players and coaches. It is very hard to escape. There is a picture and this picture is basically the picture for years and years. I felt more appreciation in England, yes.”
Tuchel wants to bolster his squad before the end of the January transfer window, with Mirror Football learning this weekend that Newcastle captain and England full-back Kieran Trippier is keen on a move to Bavaria. It’d see Trippier, 33, reunite with former Tottenham team-mates Kane and Eric Dier.
