Where’s 70,000 kgs of heroin?: Delhi High Court asks MHA
The matter will be next heard on September 9.
The Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday following a plea alleging the disappearance of over 70,000 kilograms of heroin, valued at nearly Rs 5 lakh crore, from government seizure records between 2018 and 2020, reports Bar and Bench.
A single-judge bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad directed the Ministry of Finance and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to submit their responses within four weeks. The matter will be next heard on September 9.
The case stemmed from a petition filed by journalist BR Aravindakshan, who urged the MHA to probe the matter and provide records concerning the seizure and disposal methods of the confiscated drugs.
The petitioner pointed out significant disparities between the reports of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the data furnished by the MHA regarding heroin seizures from 2018 to 2020.
According to the plea, a total of 70,772.544 kilograms of heroin vanished from seizure records during the mentioned period, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 5 lakh crore.
