Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak tried to wrestle a contestant this week.
Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak is having a bizarre week on the long-running game show.
In a bizarre incident Tuesday, Sajak jokingly tried to put contestant Fred Jackson in a crossface chicken wing after the self-proclaimed wrestler and drama teacher played a perfect game.
“(It) very rarely happens that we get someone who just swept everything,” Sajak said of Jackson’s jaw-dropping performance during the show, in which he took home $75,800.
But instead of offering a handshake, Sajak asked the other contestants, “You want me to body slam him for you?” before going in with a combination submission hold.
In a post-show interview with Sajak’s daughter Maggie Sajak , Jackson praised the TV host’s wrestling technique.
“He got me genuinely,” Jackson said. “I was trying to counter his hammerlock that he had me in. I was trying to get behind him, and I wasn’t going anywhere.”
“He’ll be happy to hear that,” Maggie replied with a laugh.
Jackson added that his appearance on the show fulfilled a life-long dream.
“ Wheel was at the top of my list of dream-come-true scenarios in my life, and it’s happening,” he told Maggie.
In a subsequent episode that aired Wednesday night, the 76-year-old made headlines again when he scolded another contestant for taking too long to solve a puzzle in the “Same Name” category.
With the letter board reading, “COCONUT & COU__ SYRUP,” the contestant named Nicole said. “I’m gonna solve it.”
“Please, solve the darn puzzle!” Sajak said with exacerbation, according to the New York Post .
After Nicole got the answer right, Sajak took a swipe at her. “It’s a horrible moment when everyone in America knows what this is but ‘why don’t I?’ But you got it.”
He then implied she dragged out her answer for dramatic effect.
“We appreciate that you pretended you didn’t know till the end. You increased the drama and that was great,” he snapped.
