Pick of the day: Who Do You Think You Are?
9pm, BBC One
Motherland and Line Of Duty actor Anna Maxwell Martin is the last of the current crop of ancestor-hunting celebrities – or, rather, Anna Martin is, as Maxwell was added as her stage name. She took it from her maternal grandfather, and her search takes her to an orphanage in Scotland where the five-year-old Maxwell was sent along with five of his sisters. Tales of larceny, striking workers and domestic abuse ensue. Maxwell Martin’s father, Ivan, died young, his side of the family from Northern Ireland, but having “let her loose on primetime TV”, you might wish we saw more than just a tantalising glimpse of her mother, Rosalind.
Car Crime: How Safe Is Your Car?
8.30pm, ITV
Car thieves hacking key fobs is one of the latest ways in which criminals operating in organised gangs are using sophisticated technology to steal cars and their parts to order. Rav Wilding investigates whether the police and manufacturers are doing enough to stay one step ahead of the thieves or not. And you can probably answer that question without watching this Tonight report.
Taskmaster: Champion of Champions 2022
9pm, Channel 4
Five “titans of the absurd” – that’s to say the winners of Taskmaster series 6 to 10 – return to execute such tasks as feeding themselves a grape in the most elaborate way. And so welcome back Ed Gamble (destroying a bath toy), Kerry Godliman (rolling a bobbin), Liza Tarbuck (avoiding low-flying bananas and sporting a beard), Lou Sanders (painting on skates) and Richard Herring (revealing his bare feet). The biggest try-hard? Ed Gamble for actually launching his Taskmaster trophy into space.
The Lazarus Project
9pm, Sky Max
From Life Ater Life to The Time Traveler’s Wife and now The Lazarus Project, what is the recent spate of time-travel dramas telling us? That we want to get the hell out of 2022? Anyway, Joe “Giri/Haji” Barton’s sci-fi series, in which app developer George (Paapa Essiedu from I May Destroy You) is suffering from Groundhog Day syndrome and has been recruited by a secret organisation winding back the clock every time there’s an imminent global catastrophe, somehow manages to be grounded in a modicum of realism.
Coroner
9pm, More4
A new crime drama import, this one based on MR Hall’s series of novels and starring Serinda Swan (from HBO’s Ballers) as a Toronto doctor, Jenny Cooper, who helps the police investigate unusual murders. Previously screened in the UK on Universal TV (RIP) and Sky Witness, this is the free-to-air debut for season one, which finds Jenny investigating a devastating fire at a low-income apartment block while juggling the usual police-procedural domestic back story issues.
Naked Attraction: All Out And Proud
10pm, Channel 4
Anna Richardson hosts a Pride special, celebrating singletons from across the sexual spectrum. And so, there’s a chance to catch up with 75-year-old bisexual Ian – the show’s oldest ever picker – Raheem the professional dancer looking to “pop his gay cherry”, and transfeminine singleton Callie, who came on the show to find her first “proper” date.
