After upgrading to iOS 14, users will notice that near the wave column on the iPhone’s screen, a green or orange dot may appear when opening certain applications. This is one of the new user privacy protection features added by Apple. This new feature will notify users which applications are using the phone’s recording and video recording functions.

If you open the application and see an orange dot in the right corner of the screen, it means that application using the microphone and recording what you say. When you use online calling apps and some official Apple apps like Siri, an orange dot will appear.

So, if you don’t make a phone call or give voice commands and you see an orange dot appear, you can check to see which application is using the microphone by pulling down from the Quick Control Center (Control Center). ).
In previous versions, a red light would appear in the upper left corner of the status bar when an app was recording a user. On this latest iOS version, the orange dot and the red light appear at the same time.

A green dot will appear to notify the user when there’s an app that uses the camera of equipment.

Previously, this feature was also applied by Apple on MacBook or iMac to notify the camera opening. In case the camera is granted access, the microphone will also be granted permission so the orange dot does not appear anymore.
The small notification bar above the screen shows the application that has just accessed the camera or microphone, so users can pull down from the Control Center to check. Users can delete the application if they are not sure why the app uses these two features to avoid being filmed and recorded.
The green dot on iOS 14 is highly appreciated by users, it will help users know which app is using the mic and camera on the device and feel more secure when using the app.
