Kasey Palmer used Coventry’s FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday to demand better from football chiefs in their fight to rid the game of racism.

The Sky Blues forward accused supporters of racist abuse when these sides met at Hillsborough in the Championship on January 20. A man was arrested and released on bail.

And after scoring the opener in his team’s 4-1 victory, Palmer lifted his shirt to reveal a T-shirt appearing to show the message ‘Less talk and more action’.

Coventry’s comfortable win means everyone but their own fans will oppose them in the fifth round, where they take on non-league Maidstone.

Maidstone beat Coventry’s Championship rivals Ipswich in the last round to set up this tie and have captured the imagination over football lovers across the country.

But Coventry boss Mark Robins knows all about this competition. His goals in the 1990 edition helped Manchester United lift the trophy and are widely believed to have saved Sir Alex Ferguson’s job. Now Robins will fancy his chances of reaching the last eight.

After a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough, Robins’ men made the perfect start to the replay when Palmer carved through the Owls’ defence before firing home.

The visitors soon equalised through Bailey Cadamarteri and both sides missed numerous chances to take the lead during an entertaining first half.

Yet while Coventry picked a strong team, Wednesday boss Danny Rohl made nine changes and the home side scored three times in 11 minutes at the start of the second half.

Two smart finishes from Callum O’Hare gave them breathing space before Haji Wright headed in the fourth just before the hour mark. Palmer was given a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.
