Modi govt promoted unemployment, inflation in last 10 years: Sonia Gandhi

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday cornered the Narendra Modi government over the issues of unemployment, inflation, and economic crisis, among others.

Addressing a huge gathering in Jaipur, she said, “For the last 10 years, our country has been under the rule of a government which has left no stone unturned in promoting unemployment, inflation, economic crisis, inequality and oppression.”

“What this Modi government has done is in front of us. That is why this time is full of despair, but know that hope is also born along with despair,” she added.

Mrs Gandhi said that the country is not the property of just a few people and that it belongs to all of us.

“Our ancestors nurtured it with their blood. Its air contains the salt of the sweat of our mothers and sisters. This country is the backyard of our children. The innocent children of this country cannot be deprived of their share of justice,” she said.

Asserting that the people of the country will teach a lesson to those who consider themselves greater than the rest, the former Congress chief said, “Can anyone be bigger than the country? The people of the country will teach a lesson to those who think like this.”

Accusing the BJP of intimidating Opposition leaders, Mrs Gandhi said, “Democratic institutions are being destroyed by the weapon of political power. Not only this, a conspiracy is being hatched to change our Constitution. Fear is being instilled in the entire system. This is all dictatorship and we will all respond to it.”
