What do you need to know about echolalia?: Harvard Health Publishing weighs in.

Echolalia is the repetition of words, phrases, and noises that are heard. Toddlers mimicking their parents’ words when learning how to speak is a form of echolalia. But echolalia can also be a sign of a language or communication disorder. Children with autism or developmental delays, for example, often exhibit echolalia. So do some people who are recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Echolalia is usually treated with speech therapy.
