pakistani writer yasir hussain calls indian tv shows’ content ‘ghatiya’ ‘humara drama unse toh behtar hai’
Indian TV shows have been captivating audiences for an extensive period of time. Daily soaps such as Anupamaa, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin and Imlie consistently attract significant TRPs. Amidst all, viewers recently witnessed a surge in popularity for Pakistani TV shows in India. Yasir Hussain, a Pakistani writer, actor and director, has shared his perspective on the standards of both Pakistani and Indian television productions.
Pakistani writer criticises Indian shows’ content
Expressing his concern about the substandard quality of work in the entertainment industry, Yasir Hussain revealed his reluctance to see his son pursue a career in this field. He also criticised the content of Indian television shows.
During an interview with Something Haute, Yasir Hussain discussed the responsibilities of actors to deliver quality performances and promote their craft. He expressed disappointment in the consistently poor work offered to actors in the Pakistani industry. Responding to the host’s observation that Indian audiences do watch Pakistani shows, Hussain remarked that only nations with low-quality dramas are interested, suggesting a lack of broader appeal.
He said, “Matlab woh nations jinke paas ghatiya quality ka drama hai woh humare drama zaroor dekh rahe hain. Uske alawa kon dekh raha hai aapka drama? Aapka drama sirf wahi log dekh rahe hai jinke paas apna drama behtar nahi hai…India mein toh intehaayi zeher drama hai (make shooting sounds). Humara drama unse toh behtar hai isiliye woh dekh rahe hain. (Those nations with inferior quality dramas are indeed watching our shows. Apart from them, who else is tuning in to Pakistani TV shows? Your dramas are only being watched by those whose own productions are not superior… In India, there is a surplus of toxic dramas (mimics shooting sounds). Our shows are better than theirs, which is why they are watching.)”
Who is Yasir Hussain?
Yasir Hussain rose to prominence with his debut film, Karachi Se Lahore. He has also been involved in TV projects such as Coke Kahani, Dareecha, and Baandi, where he portrayed a negative role. He gained further recognition as the host of The After Moon Show. Notably, Hussain faced significant backlash on social media for his critical remarks about Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster movie Pathaan, dismissing it as nothing more than a storyless video game.
