Wetherspoons to slash prices for month-long sale on Monday, with pints of beer from as little as 99p

Asia's Tech News Daily

JD Wetherspoon pubs will slash their drinks prices next month, selling some beers for as little as 99p.

The month-long promotion will run from Monday 1 November to Tuesday 30 November and covers a selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Customers at 671 pubs will be able to buy a pint of Ruddles Best or Greene King IPA, a bottle of Beck’s and a 25ml measure of Bell’s whisky including a mixer for just 99p each.

In 99 other Wetherspoons pubs, a pint of real ale will cost £1.10.

At 770 pubs, a 25ml measure of Gordon’s gin and a mixer will cost £1.99, a 175ml glass of Coldwater Creek wine will cost £1.69 and a bottle of Hardys wine will be on sale for £6.99.

Each of the chain’s pubs will reduce prices on drinks, but discounts will vary.

Customers who aren’t interested in alcoholic beverages will also be able to benefit from the reductions as all hot drinks will be on sale for 99p with free refills.

Chairman Tim Martin, said: “Our pubs are known for their excellent choice of drinks at value-for-money-prices at all times.

“Throughout November our customers will be able to choose from a great choice of drinks and save themselves some money too.”

The announcement of the sale comes after JD Wetherspoon reported a record annual loss at the start of this month.

In the 12 months to 25 July 2021, the pub and restaurant chain suffered its worst ever losses, with a £154.7m pre-tax loss, up from £34m in 2020.

Under the Government’s Covid-19 restrictions, which were introduced to help reduce the spread of the virus, its pubs were closed for 19 weeks.

At the time, Mr Martin criticised the public health policies and implementation of lockdowns, which he labelled “draconian”.

However, he expressed positivity about the future of the pub group.

“Wetherspoon is cautiously optimistic about the outcome for the financial year, on the basis that there is no further resort to lockdowns or onerous restrictions,” he said.

While customers will benefit from lower prices across a range of drinks in November, they were warned in July that prices on food and non-alcoholic drinks would rise as the temporary VAT reduction is phased out.
