Another recall has been issued, and this one could be the scariest, yet.
Apple juice has been recalled after state testing discovered inorganic arsenic that exceeded FDA standards. This level of arsenic could be very dangerous if ingested.
What We Know
One lot of Martinelli’s Apple Juice is impacted by the recall. This is a popular apple juice that is sold nationwide and the company’s website says the recalled apple juice is sold by Walmart, Target, Kroger, Publix, and Winn-Dixie- among others.
As of the time of publication, the company had not disclosed the recall on its website, and among the retailers that carry it, only Publix had posted the recall announcement.
The test occurred in Maryland. Officials there tested samples from a March 2023 production lot, and the samples tested as 11.6 parts per billion for inorganic arsenic, which was fine at the time.
However, in June 2023, the FDA lowered the acceptable level of inorganic arsenic in apple juice from 23 parts per billion to 10. Due to that, Martinelli’s made a voluntary recall.
“At S. Martinelli & Company, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of excellence, and the health and safety of our customers remains our greatest priority,” the Miami Herald reported the company said in an emailed statement. “In full cooperation with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, we issued a voluntary recall. We will continue to cooperate with the FDA on any further direction, beyond what was already sent out to our retail customers.”
The juice that has been recalled comes in 1-liter bottles with a best-by date of March 9 or 10, 2026. It was sent to stores between March 13, 2023, and Sept. 27, 2023.
If you have this juice, you can return it to the store for a full refund or simply throw it away.
What Are the Risks?
Exposure to inorganic arsenic can lead to diabetes, cancer, birth problems, and heart and developmental problems, the FDA said.
The agency added that “it is not possible to entirely remove arsenic from the environment or from the food supply.”

There are other recalls that were issued this week that you should be aware of. Frozen pizzas, queso cheese, and ice cream have all been recalled for various reasons, including containing undeclared allergens, being contaminated with listeria, and for possibly having metal in the product.
