The R-number has fallen sharply again after an unprecedented increase. On July 12, it was 0.8. A week before that, the reproduction number was still 1.75 and again earlier it was close to 3.
Only if the R-number is below 1, the spread decreases. If the reproduction number is 0.8, 100 people with the coronavirus together infect 80 others, and so the spread decreases. With a reproduction number of 1.75, 100 corona carriers together infect 175 others, and the reverse happens.
Fewer positive tests
In the past week, the number of positive tests has decreased considerably: from approximately 70,000 to more than 37,000, a decrease of 46 percent. It is the first time since the explosive increase in the number of corona tests in the first half of July that RIVM has reported a weekly decrease.
At the same time, it is a lot busier in the hospital, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). 98 new patients were admitted to the intensive care unit; doubled in a week. Outside the IC, the number of admissions increased from 324 to 51, a 60 percent increase.
