Weapon allegedly used to kill Gabrielle Marshall located

The weapon allegedly used to kill a Queensland mother who was living in northern Tasmania has been found.

Gabrielle Marshall’s body was discovered by police at a property in Ulverstone about 3am on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old had only recently moved to Tasmania from Queensland where she lived with a female friend and her young children.

Colin William Drake, 35, was arrested at another home about 200m away on the same street Tuesday morning and has since been charged with her murder.

Tasmania Police said the knife allegedly used in the killing had been located on Friday.

“No further details are able to be provided as the matter is now before the courts,” police said in a brief statement.

Ms Marshall was home with her friend and the young children when a man allegedly broke into the house, according to Detective Inspector Kim Steven.

He said the friend called police claiming there was a prowler in her home.

When officers arrived at the property, they found Ms Marshall already dead inside.

Inspector Steven said the victim’s wounds were consistent with a stabbing.

Tributes began flowing for the young woman who was remembered as “beautiful soul who wanted nothing but peace in her life”.

The victim’s mother Heidi Marshall began crowd-funding on social media to raise money for Ms Marshall’s six-year-old daughter.

The grandmother aims to raise $20,000 to be put towards the child’s upbringing.

“Our beautiful girl was taken away for us to suddenly,” Mrs Marshall wrote in her post.

“We would like to fundraise for her daughter who is 6 years old and will have to grow up without her mother.”

Mr Drake is due back in court in July.
