New Delhi: The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday reacted to Russia’s statement on meddling by the West in the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections. responding to a question by Times Now over Russia’s remarks, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India will not allow any interference by foreign power.
“We had made some statements on reports emanating from the United States. We have made our position very clear whether it is United States Commission on International Religious Freedom or any other report that came out which made certain observations on that,” Jaiswal said.
“Any foreign power, including the US will not be able to interfere in our internal matters,” he added.
MEA’s Statement:
Russia on Thursday alleged that the US was trying to interfere in India’s internal matters. Moscow also rejected the United States’s claims of the involvement of Indian officials in the plot to assassinate Khalistani separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, and said that it was an attempt to destabilise India during Lok Sabha elections.
Russia FM Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the US lacks a simple understanding of India’s national mentality and history, as it continues to make “unfounded accusations” about religious freedoms. Zakharova called it disrespectful to India as a country and a state.
“According to the information we have, Washington has not yet provided any reliable evidence of the involvement of Indian citizens in the preparation of the murder of a certain GS Pannun. Speculation on this topic in the absence of evidence is unacceptable,” the official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday (local time).
“Washington lacks a simple understanding of India’s national mentality and history, as America continues to make unfounded accusations about religious freedoms. Washington’s actions clearly constitute interference in India’s internal affairs…As for speculations, since there is no evidence, it is not acceptable…They are not respecting India as a state,” she said.
