RESIDENTS who decorated a Christmas tree for their estate say they love it but the council want to cut it down.
The makeshift “tree” on Sutcliffe Avenue in Nunsthorpe, Grimsby, has divided opinion between locals and the council.

The Christmas tree has been referred to as a “harmless” joke by some whilst others have branded it “scruffy” and 'upsetting' to look at.
However, the so-called tree has garnered a lot of attention elsewhere with a short video of it online amassing over 35,000 views.
North East Lincolnshire Council said they had planned to leave thedecorations until after Christmas, but that it has now become an
eyesore and a hazard.
But they will now be removing the “tree” over the next few days.
One man, Graham Manning, said: “Surely the people of Grimsby haven't stooped to this level?”
Whilst others made sarcastic comparisons to other Christmas displays across the country.
Dave Pearce simply put “Better than Albert Square,” whilst others took the opportunity to mock last year's Christmas tree in Grimsby Town centre that was ridiculed for its height.
“Better than town's last year,” said James Ward with Antony Wright adding: “What a bloody eye sore, can only be the Nunny.”
A number of others said it was a reflection of the estate as Joshua Willis said: “Welcome to the Nunny.”
However, others took aim at the local council to get the problem sorted with Tina Pritchard commenting: “Council should cut it all back and empty the bins more often it won't look so messy even at the back of the shops and flats.”
And some did see the funny side of the tree though with Pat Delatouoche suggesting: “Better than just being thrown all over the streets. Harmless fun I'd say.”
Others were more frustrated than others with Sallyanne Burden suggesting: “What a disgrace for our children to see they ought to be ashamed.”
Karen Cordaroy stated: “Maybe if you don't like it then stop throwing cans and bottles everywhere put them in the bin, that's a good statement I think.”
In response to these comments, an NELC spokesperson said: “This started out as a few decorations on the tree in the middle of this shrubbery.
“We recently pruned the other shrubs nearby but people in the area said we could leave this one until after Christmas as it looked quite nice.
“Unfortunately, it’s now overloaded with bottles and cans and has become an eyesore and a hazard. We will be clearing the litter and cutting back the shrubbery in the next few days.”
