watch: want to revive calgary streets? ditch some plus-15s, expert urges

Pedestrians walk through the multi-coloured panels of the Plus-15 from City Hall to Arts Commons on Nov. 14, 2022.

Calgary’s climate-controlled Plus-15 walkways are a welcome way to navigate downtown in all seasons.

Pedestrians can go a great distance and gain access to a large variety of retailers and services without once having to go outside. This a problem, according to urban political geographer Byron Miller, who says dismantling some sections of Calgary’s skywalk network would help breathe life into moribund streets in parts of the city centre.

Would you rather be outside on ground level, or sheltered in a Plus-15 during your downtown travels? Is there a way to get more retailers and pedestrians outside the Plus-15 environment?
