Watch the Trailer for the New Brian Wilson Documentary "Long Promised Road"

Asia's Tech News Daily

Brian Wilson has sadly spent decades plagued by mental illness that has limited his ability to participate in interviews, but a new documentary promises a rare look inside the head of the legendary Beach Boys frontman.

© Donald Kravitz / Getty Images Brian Wilson, original member of the Beach Boys, performs in concert at the Etess Arena in Hard Rock Atlantic City on October 16, 2021 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Beach Boy member is the subject of a new documentary, which just had a trailer debut online.

Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road will feature interviews with other notable musicians including Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, former Beach Boy Al Jardine, Don Was, Nick Jonas, Linda Perry, Jakob Dylan and the Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins all weighing in on Wilson’s legacy and impact as a performer. But the big draw will undoubtedly be the rare interviews with Wilson conducted by former Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Jason Fine.

“The idea of doing an interview makes Brian nervous,” Fine explains in the trailer, “So I’ll often ask if we can just take a drive and listen to some music.” (Wilson has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, and he has suffered from auditory hallucinations — hearing voices in his head, for example — for over 40 years.) In the trailer, we see the pair doing just that as Wilson opens up about his struggles and his career while the two visit landmarks like his childhood home and the beach where the Beach Boys shot the cover for their 1962 debut Surfin’ Safari.

The film was directed by Brent Wilson (no relation to Brian), and it will be released simultaneously in theaters and on VOD on Nov. 19. It will also feature a new song, “Right Where I Belong,” crafted by Wilson and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. You can check out the trailer below.
