Men ‘identifying’ their way into female prisons, says Women’s Forum Australia research fellow
Women’s Forum Australia research fellow Stephanie Bastiaan says we are living in a time where men are “identifying” their way into female prisons.
Ms Bastiaan’s comments come as the UK government has revealed nearly three in four transgender prisoners currently held in British jails are serving sentences for sex offences or violent crimes.
“If you are a man and you are predisposed to violence against women or sexual abuse against women and you’re housed in a male prison, if you had the opportunity to transfer to a female prison, why wouldn’t you?,” Ms Bastiaan told Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi.

“We are in a time at the moment where that is supported, it’s promoted.
“We have a situation here where men are identifying into women’s prisons.”
