An Aussie worker has quit his job after receiving a text message from his boss cancelling his overseas holiday without first asking him.

The wild text exchange was posted by Michael Sanz, a business owner and outsourcing expert, who often shares people’s ‘bad boss’ experiences online.

He shared the conversation between the worker, Noel, and his boss, Nick, to TikTok, telling his followers: ‘You’re not going to believe this message I’ve just been sent.’

The initial message is from Nick, telling Noel that his leave had been cancelled because he needs all hands on deck while trying to replace a staff member who had just resigned.

‘We can push back a few months. I’ve advised HR it’s now changed for you. Appreciate your understanding,’ the boss wrote.

Mr Sanz then says exactly what all his followers were likely thinking: ‘This guy sounds like a tool; he’s automatically cancelling without any conversation.’

Noel the employee replies saying he understands how ‘frustrating’ this situation would be for the company but explains that he can’t change his plans.

‘I can’t cancel my leave as it’s my brother’s wedding in Bali, all flights are paid for and my kids are in the wedding party,’ he wrote.

‘I did book this seven months ago, so cancelling isn’t an option.’

Nick reiterates to the worker that he will have to change his plans after the employee, Noel, tells him he can’t cancel a trip books months earlier

Nick then asked the worker to reduce his leave from three weeks to three days over the weekend.

‘Not sure what you can do for three weeks in Bali haha,’ he added.

Mr Sanz then said that he’d be ‘furious’ if he was the worker because the boss is making a ‘joke’ out of a totally unreasonable request.

Noel then replied: ‘I feel terrible that the company is in this position, but I can’t cancel or amend.’

‘I haven’t had leave in three years, it’s also no one’s business how I spend my leave.’

He then reiterated that he would be able to help out more before he left on leave and suggested they get some temp workers to cover the portfolios until they can find a replacement.

But his boss replied bluntly: ‘Mate, can’t stress enough, your leave is cancelled, we just can’t do it. I’m sorry.’

Clearly frustrated by Nick’s lack of compassion, Noel informed his boss that his leave would start ‘from today’.

‘While away I will think about if working with a company that doesn’t promote boundaries is a place I really want to work at,’ he wrote.

He also added that he would be sending this ‘totally unreasonable’ exchange to HR.

Mr Sanz praised the worker, saying that he’d been polite and that he shouldn’t have to justify his annual leave.

‘His holiday should go ahead, the running of the business should be left to the business owners,’ he said

‘They should get a temp in there or a virtual assistant, someone that can help carry that admin load while staff are off.’

Since the video was uploaded it has been watched more than 700,000 times and received hundreds of comments from stunned viewers.

‘Is this even legal?’ one person said.

Another said they’d ‘hand in their resignation’.

In the comments, Mr Sanz confirmed that Noel has since found a new job.
