Vivek Agnihotri praised Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies.

Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, saw its theatrical release on March 1, 2024. Upon its release, the film garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Celebrities also poured in love for Rao’s directorial prowess and stellar performances by the cast of the film. Now, the film has been released on Netflix on April 26. As the film continues to win hearts, director Vivek Agnihotri has also shared his thoughts and opinions on the touching comedy-drama.

The Vaccine War maker, after watching the film, took to his social media handle and dropped a post. In his post on X (Formerly Twitter), Vivek Agnihotri highlighted, “What a beautiful, authentic and simple film is #LaapataaLadies. So rooted in desi ethos. Director @ikiranrao shines with nuanced storytelling, casting, locations and almost every single detail. Brilliant performances by @PratibhaRanta @nitanshi_goel and outstanding Sparsh Shrivastava and everyone else. @ravikishann surprises as usual with his powerful performance. Powerful yet simple dialogues: “थाना में समस्या बताओ, हैसियत नहीं।” “बुडबर्क होना शर्म का बात नहीं है, बुडबर्क होने पे गर्व करना शर्म का बात है।” “गुमनामी से ज़्यादा बदनामी का डर?” “क्या कला फ़िज़ूल है?” Must watch for those who also like cinema without spectacle.”

The movie is adapted from Biplab Goswami’s award-winning novel. Kiran Rao’s directorial features Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles. The movie takes viewers back to rural India in 2001. Its narrative revolves around two brides who get exchanged during a train journey. The journey filled with twists and turns begins as their husbands start searching for the real bride.

Made under the banners of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film marked the directorial comeback of Kiran Rao after Dhobi Ghat. Before its theatrical release, the film was screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023. It received a standing ovation from the audience present at the festival.

Meanwhile, Vivek Agnihotri shared an important update about his next The Delhi Files.

. In response to a tweet, the filmmaker announced that his upcoming movie is scheduled for release in 2025. Additionally, Agnihotri disclosed details about the lead actors, building anticipation and keeping the audience engaged with the project.

Responding to a tweet by a social media user, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri captioned, “In the meantime, #TheDelhiFiles is going on floors this year, as scheduled. Release next year. No big stars. Only big content.”

Previously, Vivek Agnihotri had mentioned that The Delhi Files would form the final installment in a trilogy that includes The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files. In a tweet announcing the film, the director shared, “Few years back, I started telling untold stories of independent India.1. #TheTashkentFiles – Right To Truth. 2. #TheKashmirFiles – Right To Justice (releasing soon) Happy to announce the last & the boldest of the trilogy: 3. #TheDelhiFiles – Right To Life. Pls bless us.”

The production of The Delhi Files will be a collaboration between Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Vivek’s I am Buddha Production. Meanwhile, earlier this year, Vivek Agnihotri was bestowed with the title of Doctorate from the Governor of Maharashtra.
