WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT The shih tzu-type dog was abandoned in Bridgend, south Wales
An investigation has been launched after a tiny dog was found close to death after being ‘fly-tipped’ by a heartless owner.
The shih tzu-type dog, who has since been affectionately named Patsy Pancake, was rescued by the RSPCA in Bridgend, south Wales, on January 24.
Patsy Pancake was found with a heavily matted coat contaminated with faeces and nearly died, according to RSPCA Cymru.
The dog, who is around ten years old, was spotted by a passer-by next to a hedge in the Coytrahen area of the town.
It was ‘touch and go’ whether she would survive but she has been nursed back to health and is currently being looked after by an RSPCA foster carer, the organisation said.

RSPCA Cymru has now launched an appeal for information about the dog and her owner.
RSPCA inspector Keith Hogben, who has been investigating the incident along with deputy chief inspector (DCI) Gemma Cooper, said the dog was found on land that is known for fly-tipping.
He said: ‘We’d like to thank the person who found her who was also understandably very upset to see her condition and who did clip the hair around her eyes as she could hardly see.
‘As soon as she came into RSPCA care she started to receive the much-needed vet care that she needed.
‘She was firstly clipped to remove her heavily matted coat which was contaminated with faeces.
‘Worryingly she did take a turn for the worst and became poorly with sepsis.

‘However she is now recovering well. She is now with a foster carer and has settled in well to her new environment.’
DCI Cooper added: ‘It was touch and go as to whether she would survive but the staff at the vets have been incredible and they helped to make a miracle happen.’
Anyone with information about this dog or its owner should get in touch with the RSPCA by calling 0300 123 8018 and quoting the reference number 01213820.
