Vile moment Jewish bus passengers are ‘abused by gang spitting & shouting anti-Semitic slurs during Hanukkah'

POLICE have launched a probe after Jewish passengers were subjected to a barrage of vile abuse by yobs shouting anti-Semitic slurs on Hanukkah.

Footage shows the gang ranting at the Jewish commuters as they come to a stop on Oxford Street, on Monday evening.

The men allegedly launched anti-semitic slurs at the group on the bus

The gang’s exact words can’t be heard in the footage, but the shocked bus goers can be heard saying “We are all Jewish”.

The vile assault took place during the Jewish festival of Hannukkah, which is also known as the Festival of Lights and runs from 28 November to 6 December.

At one point in the video, obtained by the Jewish Chronicle, one of the yobs takes off one of his shoes and hits it against the side of the transport, before spitting at the vehicle.

Officers were called at the time of the incident, but were unable to track down the men in the footage.

The bus left the location to avoid any escalation of the incident, but the alleged victims were spoken to by cops.

Officers are treating the attack as a hate crime and have so far made no arrests.

Detectives are also appealing for anyone who recognises the men shown hurling the abuse in the video to get in contact.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We are aware of a video posted on social media which shows the occupants of a bus being abused by a group of men.

“We believe the video was filmed on Oxford Street, W1 at around 8pm on Monday, 29 November.

“The occupants of the bus were Jewish and the abuse directed at them was allegedly anti-Semitic in nature.

“Police were called at the time of the incident and officers were deployed.

“While they were en route, the bus left the location to avoid any further confrontation. Officers met it in Grosvenor Place to speak to the occupants and check on their welfare.

“Details of the incident were taken. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The group shown in the video could not be located at the time of the incident and there have been no arrests.

“The incident is being treated as a hate crime and officers will be assessing the available evidence to identify any possible lines of enquiry.

“Anyone who recognises the men shown in the video, or who has other information that may assist officers, can call police on 101 with the reference 6187/29NOV.”

Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
