MoH to Withdraw Unused COVID-19 Vaccine Doses after May 5

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked localities to accomplish the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign before May 5 otherwise unused vaccine doses will be withdrawn.

The announcement was released at a virtual meeting on COVID-19 prevention and vaccine inoculation on April 15.

Previously, the ministry passed a plan to allocate 811,200 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, delivered through COVAX Facility, to all 63 provinces and cities in the country and the military and police forces.

The above vaccine doses will expire on May 31, thus the ministry urged localities to doubt effort in inoculating priority groups.

So far, 49 provinces and cities have received the vaccine doses and the rest will be delivered to other 14 provinces and cities in coming time.

Earlier, newly-elected Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh tasked localities and the MoH to save every dose of vaccine and avoid vaccine waste before expiry date.

The MoH said the inoculation program, which was kicked off on March 8, has been on schedule and more than 73,000 people have received their first jabs, VGP reported.

Phu Tho Province to let off fireworks at Hung Kings Festival

The Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee will organize high-altitude fireworks for 15 minutes on April 20 in Viet Tri city on the occasion of the Hung Kings Festival, following an approval of the central Government. The high-altitude fireworks will take place after an art performance program theme “Sacred roots – Hung Kings Land” (from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm) on April 20, at Van Lang Park, Viet Tri City.

Hung King Temple festival can be considered one of the most important and meaningful one that connect Vietnamese people from all over the country together. It enhances the national unity and reminds Vietnamese people of their origin and history.

Legend has it that the eldest son of Lac Long Quan (son of Kinh Duong Vuong) and Au Co (the fairy daughter of De Lai) was made king. He named the country Van Lang and set up the capital in Phong Chau (modern-day Viet Tri city), beginning 18 dynasties of the Hung Kings.

To honor their substantial contributions, a complex of temples dedicated to the kings was built on Nghia Linh Mountain, and the tenth day of the third lunar month serves as the national commemorative anniversary for the kings, as reported by VGP.
