Deputy General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong said at a seminar that it was considering opening up to international markets where ensure criteria including a large number of tourists, package tours, commitments to vaccination and quarantine.

In addition, the destinations must be convenient for flights. The tourist sites must lie in a separate area and serves visitors with a variety of services, she added.

Concurring Huong’s viewpoint, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Tien said that as the country has many closed tourism complexes, ministries and branches should soon propose to the Government to issue standards and criteria to resume the tourism industry.

At the seminar, representatives of various tourism enterprises also put forth initiatives to promote tourism in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic such as organizing centralized quarantine at hotels for enterprises with foreign experts or marathons.

Many tourism enterprises are also weighing up conducting charter flights that are coordinated with luxury resorts for centralized quarantine.

In addition, many businesses suggested the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to promote citizens to travel more by stimulus packages.

Vietnam has been struggling with its latest Covid-19 outbreak that began on Jan. 28 after a 55-day clean streak, with 879 community transmissions recorded. So far, the outbreak situation in the country is basically under control, with many localities resuming non-essential services.

While the production of domestic vaccines is underway, the government has speeded up foreign procurement to inoculate prioritized groups.

Vietnam recorded a 79 percent decline year-on-year in the number of foreign visitors in 2020 due to travel restrictions amid the pandemic as the country received 3.83 million foreign tourists against a record 18 million in 2019, according to official data, Vnexpress reported.

The government has closed national borders and canceled all international flights since March 25 with only Vietnamese repatriates, foreign experts, and highly-skilled workers allowed in with stringent conditions.

The government recently green-lighted the resumption of commercial flights to seven Asian destinations, mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, but Vietnamese carriers are still not allowed to operate inbound flights.
