Nick Kyrgios makes stunning locker room admission about Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev in podcast debut with Gordon Ramsay

Good Trouble podcast released Features celebrity chef Ramsay Kyrgios revealed inside moment with Medvedev

Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has made a cheeky confession about Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev to celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

The injured star launched the first episode of his new series Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios this week, hosting the show and interviewing Ramsay.

Kyrgios opened to show by saying it was about ‘celebrating those that have the courage to disrupt the norm’.

‘In each episode we sit down with game-changers who aren’t afraid to rock the boat,’ he continued.

While the debut episode mostly featured Kyrgios and Ramsay gushing over the respective careers, there was a revealing moment involving Medvedev.

Medvedev will chase his second major title on Sunday against rising Italian superstar Jannik Sinner, who earlier on Friday ended super Serb Novak Djokovic’s perfect 10-from-10 semi-final record at Melbourne Park with a commanding four-set win.

Kyrgios spoke about his fourth-round victory over the Russian at the 2022 US Open,  outlining a moment between the two that shocked Ramsay.

‘Well, the thing about tennis is, everyone thinks it’s individual, right?’ Kyrgios said.

‘But then it’s like … all the athletes shower together. We eat together. So, we’re seeing these people like minutes before we walk out to the arena, which is the craziest thing in sport.

‘Like usually (in sport you have) separate locker rooms. You don’t see this person all day. You’re trying to kill this person.

‘So for instance, last year at the US Open, me and Medvedev were about to go out there and we’re just in the locker room together watching the previous match finishes and we’re just getting our stuff together and then we go play.’

‘Wow, I didn’t know that,’ Ramsay replied, before Kyrgios continued.

‘And then we just come right back into the locker room getting undressed, shower and then we’re the only two people in the locker room and I just got to see this person all day.

‘So it’s not a team environment, (but) it feels like you’re doing the same thing because it’s like I just played in front of millions of people against this guy for hundreds and thousands of dollars and now you gotta shower next to him.’

‘I never knew that,’ Ramsay replies. ‘I always thought, you see each other for the first time (on court and have a) separate dressing room.’

Medvedev looked on the verge of a straight-sets exit when he dropped the opening two sets of the night semi-final on Rod Laver Arena.

But the 27-year-old hung tough to win the next two sets in tiebreaks as Zverev, who complained he’s been suffering from sickness, began to wilt and the Russian dominated the decider to triumph 5-7 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

‘I’ve never made it that tough before and I’m happy about it,’ Medvedev said.

‘Before, my statistics in five-set matches were not good.

‘Physically and mentally it’s tough, five sets.

‘Many times (in the past) in the fifth, I was not strong enough.

‘So I’m happy.’

Future guests for Good Trouble include boxing-champion Mike Tyson, actor-comedian Rainn Wilson, Emmy Award-winning journalist Jemele Hill, bestselling author Jay Shetty, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk and four-time major-tennis champion Naomi Osaka.
