Victoria has officially reached its 70 per cent vaccine milestone this morning ahead of lockdown lifting tonight.
A total of 70.51 per cent of Victorians over 16 are now fully vaccinated, with Melburnians gearing up to embrace new freedoms at 11.59pm after enduring the longest lockdowns in the world.
Premier Daniel Andrews thanked Victorians for coming forward to get vaccinated this morning.

“We’ve officially hit 70 per cent fully vaccinated,” he said on Twitter.
“Because of everything Victorians have done, tomorrow we can start getting back to the things we love.
“Thank you Victoria – I’m so proud.”
Prime Minister Scott Morrison also congratulated Victoria on Twitter, along with Tasmania, which has also reached its vaccination target.
“Well done Vic and Tas – both states have today hit the 70 per cent fully vaccinated target,” he said.
COVID-19 Response Commander Jeroen Weimar yesterday said Victoria’s vaccine target was on track to be met today.
“We will see very high-level vaccinations across Victoria over the weeks ahead,” he said.
“My sense at the moment in October, through the work of our many vaccination partners, we are on track to doing 10 million doses during the month of October.”
Although some concerns have been raised about the continual high number of coronavirus cases in the community, authorities have said that high vaccination coverage paired with a lower than expected rate of hospitalisations, has made it safe to open up.
Yesterday in Victoria, there were 1841 new local cases of COVID-19 and another 12 deaths.
Premier Daniel Andrews issued a stern warning to unvaccinated residents, reminding them that freedoms will not apply to them likely until next year.
“I’m not going to say to someone, just wait it out, just wait for five weeks and then you will be able to go to the pub,” Mr Andrews said.
“I cannot put a day on it … it will not be when we reach 90 per cent.
“It will not be anytime soon. That is going to function for a period of time, well into 2022.”Internet Explorer Channel Network
