Veteran Director-Screenwriter Sangeeth Sivan Passes Away; Sunny Deol, Riteish Deshmukh Pay Tribute
Director Sangeeth Sivan passed away on April 8 at the age of 65. As per reports, he was hospitalised in a private hospital and the reason for his demise has not been revealed yet. The filmmaker was known for his work in Malayalam and Hindi cinema. He started his career by working as an executive producer in the 1989 Hindi movie ‘Raakh’, starring Aamir Khan.
He made his directorial debut in 1990 with the Malayalam movie ‘Vyooham’. The filmmaker teamed up with superstar Mohanlal three times for the movies: ‘Yodha’, ‘Gandharvam’ and ‘Nirnayam’. Sangeeth Sivan has directed 15 movies in his career.
Riteish Deshmukh, who worked with the filmmaker in ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ and ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’, paid heartfelt tribute on X. He wrote, “Deeply saddened and shocked to know that Sangeeth Sivan Sir is no more. As a newcomer all you want is someone to believe in you and take a chance.. can’t thank him enough for Kya Kool Hai Hum & Apna Sapna Money Money. Soft spoken, gentle and a wonderful human being. Am heart broken today, my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, his wife, kids, brothers. I will miss you Da !!!!! And your infectious laughter!!! Rest in Glory….”
Sunny Deol wrote on X, “Shocked to hear about the passing away of my dear friend @sangeethsivan, can’t believe that you are no longer amongst us, but you will always be with us in our hearts and memories. Om Shanti my friend, may your family get the strength to overcome your loss.”
He last directed the Hindi web series ‘Bhram’ in 2019, starring Kalki Koechlin and Bhumika Chawla in the lead roles.
