Greg Norman has faced more ridicule as the head of LIV Golf
PGA Tour star Byeong Hun An could not resist a sarcastic dig at Greg Norman, after the LIV Golf CEO again hit out the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) system.
Norman’s breakaway league is yet to acquire ranking points from OWGR, which has seen some of the circuits biggest names tumble down the world ranking list. Unsurprisingly the Australian CEO has been left unimpressed with the ranking system and reignited his feud with OWGR bosses.
Taking to Instagram, Norman shared a graphic of the current list of the top-50 players in the world, labelling the lack of LIV Golf representation ‘laughable’.
Included were just five members of the breakaway league, with three of those being some of their latest recruits in Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Adrian Meronk. Alongside the OWGR list were a number of alternative world rankings, all including more LIV stars than the official top-50.
It is fair to say not everybody was sympathetic with Norman’s frustrations though, including PGA Tour member Hun An. Sarcastically venting in a similar fashion to the LIV boss, the world No. 44 responded: “I’m top 30 player in all other rankings. And I’m still not qualified for all the majors yet. It’s unbelievable and not acceptable,” accompanied with an angry-faced emoji.
He later revealed that his response was a sarcastic one, and was posting after a third top-20 finish of the season at last weekend’s Genesis Invitational. For Norman and co though, the OWGR snub remains a real problem, with LIV’s representation at golf’s four majors beginning to dwindle.

Their latest bid to acquire ranking recognition came last Autumn, but this application was rejected by OWGR bosses. The ranking system cited LIV’s 54-hole, no cut format, as well as its closed-shop ranking and promotion system as the key reasonings behind their failure to receive ranking points.
At the time, LIV bosses fired back with a scathing response, questioning the legitimacy of the current rankings without the involvement of their events. A statement read last October: “OWGR’s sole objective is to rank the best players across the globe. Today’s communication makes clear that it can no longer deliver on that objective…
“A ranking which fails to fairly represent all participants, irrespective of where in the world they play golf, robs fans, players and all of golf’s stakeholders of the objective basis underpinning any accurate recognition of the world’s best player performances. It also robs some traditional tournaments of the best fields possible.
“Professional golf is now without a true or global scoring and ranking system. There is no benefit for fans or players from the lack of trust or clarity as long as the best player performances are not recognised.”
In a bid to earn some OWGR points with major season drawing closer, a total of 20 LIV stars have opted to enter this week’s International Series Oman over on the Asian Tour.
