PGA Tour events and LIV Golf events feature a different number of holes with the PGA Tour playing 72-hole events while LIV Golf plays only 54-hold tournaments. But newly-signed LIV Golf star Jon Rahm wants to change that.
As the PGA Tour and LIV Golf negotiate toward a potential alliance that could re-unify professional golf, Jon Rahm thinks that LIV Golf should consider moving to 72 holes to be more in line with the PGA Tour.
“If there ever was a way where LIV could go to 72 holes, I think it would help all of this argument a lot,” Rahm told the BBC. “The closer I think we can get LIV Golf to some other things the better. I think it would be for some kind of unification to feed into a world tour or something like that.
“I don’t know if I’m alone in this, but I definitely wouldn’t mind going back to 72 holes.”
Last month, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and members of the policy board met with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV Golf, about a potential deal to unify the leagues.
It’s not clear if a deal will be reached or when it could happen, but there is an active effort to re-unify golf.
