LTO suspends license of driver in road rage

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of a sport utility vehicle driver who injured an Angkas rider and his passenger during a road rage incident in Mandaluyong.

Pedro Magalit, 53, was arrested by personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and was turned over to police.

Dashcam footage shows Magalit, who was driving a Suzuki Wagon, arguing with a motorcycle taxi driver along EDSA Ortigas on Wednesday.

After a few seconds, the SUV swerved and deliberately sideswiped the motorcycle, throwing the rider and his passenger to the ground.

The rider and his passenger were taken by Philippine Red Cross personnel to a hospital for treatment.

The LTO said the SUV involved in the incident was registered to a bank.

The Mandaluyong police filed two counts of frustrated murder against Magalit before the city prosecutor’s office.

He could face charges of reckless driving, violating a duty of a driver in case of an accident, and being an improper person to operate a vehicle, acccording to the LTO.

Reports said Magalit got mad at the Angkas rider for allegedly cutting into his lane and ignoring his warning signs. — Mark Ernest Villeza
