Republicans now REGRET expelling serial fabulist George Santos after Democrats flipped the Long Island liar's seat: GOP blames infighting and tears into candidate Mazi Pilip after devastating loss

  • Democrat Tom Suozzi won a special election in New York Tuesday evening
  • The Democrat victory successfully flipped a red seat blue, diminishing the already razor-thin majority Republicans have in the House
  • Republicans said they regret expelling Santos and degrading GOP control

House Republicans largely voted to expel fabulist former Rep. George Santos last year, but after his vacated seat flipped to a Democrat many are regretting the decision.

In a special election Tuesday to fill the ousted serial liar’s seat, Democrat Tom Suozzi triumphed over GOP candidate Mazi Pilip and dealt a blow to the already razor-thin Republican majority.

Suozzi handedly beat Pilip by eight points to secure the battleground district in Long Island in a crucial with for Democrats heading into the 2024 election.

After the devastating loss, Republicans started to question why they expelled Santos in the first place. He was booted out of Congress in December for stealing donor funds to spend on OnlyFans and Botox.

Suozzi’s win could hamstring the Republican agenda due to their razor thin majority. Now, the House GOP can only afford to lose two votes to pass party line bills.

‘So who still thinks Republicans helping Democrats kick out Santos was a good idea?’ Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., posted on X following the loss.

House Republican Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., said Wednesday morning ‘it was a tough loss last night,’ and added he did not support expelling Santos last year.

‘Whatever you want to say about George Santos, I don’t think he should have been expelled and he was a great Republican vote,’ firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said.

Greene also went on to blast Pilip as a ‘horrible candidate’ that ‘was a registered Democrat who apparently hated President Trump.’

Pilip is a registered Democrat, but ran as a Republican in the special election.

Former President Donald Trump called Pilip a ‘very foolish woman’ after her loss, saying ‘Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat?’

He went on: ‘Just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn’t endorse me and tried to “straddle the fence,” when she would have easily WON if she understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America.’

The people who ‘blew up the GOP majority’ are former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and ‘everyone who voted to expel’ Santos, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., posted on X Wednesday.

Rep. Marc Molinaro, R-N.Y., admitted that though Santos was ‘a con man’ and ‘shouldn’t have been a member of Congress’ there have been lots of decisions in recent months that have ‘shrunk the majority.’

‘Perhaps George Santos being honest would have kept one more seat here in Congress,’ he added.

Others, though, did not blame expelling Santos as much as other factors that led to the special election loss.

‘The GOP should have pushed to take advantage of early voting given a snowstorm that hampered turnout, National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Rep. Rich Hudson said.

The vote came just as a nor’easter storm pounded New York with snow and threatened to impact voter turnout

Additionally, Suozzi prioritized Republican issues, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., noted Wednesday.

‘He sounded like a Republican talking about the border and immigration because everybody knows that’s the top issue.’

‘They had a three term incumbent with 100 percent name ID,’ the speaker continued. ‘So if they spent $15 million on Biden plus eight districts, they’ll win.’

Despite the Democrat victory in the Empire State, Johnson said Republicans are still poised to secure seats in November.

‘There are 24 other districts that are more favorable to us being held by Democrats.’

Still, once Suozzi is sworn in, the House GOP can only afford to lose two votes to pass measures where all Democrats vote ‘no.’

Serial liar Santos was voted out of Congress after serving just 11 months in office following an ethics report revealing he improperly diverted campaign contributions to pay for Botox treatments, Hermes bags, OnlyFans and cash withdrawals at a casino.

After the special election was called, Santos posted on X taking aim at the New York Republican lawmakers who helped oust him, blaming them for losing a seat in the House.

‘Tonight the establishment set $10 million on fire!’ Santos said referencing the money spent to prop up Pilip’s campaign.
