narayana murthy shares regrets, says ‘infosys would have done much better…’
Narayana Murthy news: In a conversation with Economic Times, Infosys’ co-founder, NR Narayana Murthy, reflected on his tenure at the company, emphasising the inclusive decision-making process that valued everyone’s opinions. Despite this, he acknowledged a drawback of such democratic practices, suggesting that Infosys could have achieved greater success had it not been for the inherent inefficiencies of democracy. “Infosys would have done much better than what it did because we had created an enlightened democracy,” he commented when asked about his regrets.
Narayana Murthy’s Regret Towards Employees
One significant regret Narayana Murthy highlighted was his inability to equitably reward the early employees of Infosys, akin to the co-founders. He lamented not providing significant stock options to several key early supporters whose contributions were pivotal, equal, or even surpassing his own. “Their contribution was more or as much as mine. I only wish I had thought about it very carefully and those extraordinary people also benefited,” he noted.
On Sudha Murty Joining Infosys
These reflections emerged during an event marking the personal and professional milestones of Narayana Murthy and his wife, Sudha Murty, including their anniversary and a book launch. Additionally, he revisited a past regret of not having Sudha Murty formally involved in Infosys. Narayana Murthy has previously spoken about this openly, Economic Times reported.
Sudha Murty, who was honored with the Padma Bhushan award, shared her initial disappointment over not being part of Infosys. However, she found her calling through the establishment of the Infosys Foundation, dedicated to social welfare initiatives, inspired by advice from their daughter, Akshata Murty. This pivot not only marked a significant contribution to society but also highlighted the Murty family’s enduring impact beyond the corporate sphere.
