USA: Illegaler Handel mit benutzen Einweghandschuhen aufgedeckt

Sie wurden als neu verkauft – dabei waren sie nur notdürftig gewaschen. In die USA sind offenbar Millionen minderwertiger Einweg- und Plastikhandschuhe importiert worden, berichtet CNN.

Sie sammeln gebrauchte Einweghandschuhe, lassen sie von Wanderarbeitern in Thailand waschen und trocknen – und verkaufen sie dann für viel Geld wieder als neue Einweghandschuhe in die USA. Kriminelle haben offenbar ein neues, lukratives Geschäftsfeld entdeckt. Das berichtet der US-Nachrichtensender CNN.

Laut den Recherchen der Journalisten informierte ein US-Unternehmen schon im Februar und März dieses Jahres zwei US-Bundesbehörden darüber, Lieferungen mit minderwertigen und sichtbar verschmutzten Handschuhen von einer Firma in Thailand erhalten zu haben. Dennoch gelang es dieser thailändischen Firma offenbar, in den folgenden Monaten weitere Millionen Handschuhe zu versenden.

Tarek Kirschen, ein Geschäftsmann aus Miami, sagte CNN, er habe die Handschuhe aus Thailand ungesehen weiterverkauft und dann wütende Anrufe seiner Kunden bekommen. Die zweite Lieferung aus Thailand habe er dann persönlich kontrolliert. »Ich wollte meinen Augen nicht trauen. Das waren gebrauchte Handschuhe. Manche waren dreckig, auf manchen waren Blutflecken. Auf manchen standen Daten von vor zwei Jahren.«

Er habe daraufhin seinen Kunden das Geld erstattet, die Handschuhe vernichtet und die US-Aufsichtsbehörde FDA informiert. Diese erklärte gegenüber CNN, sie könne sich nicht zu einzelnen Fällen äußern, habe aber »eine Reihe von Maßnahmen ergriffen, um diejenigen, die nicht zugelassene Produkte verkaufen, ausfindig zu machen und zu stoppen«.

Laut CNN wird der Kampf gegen illegalen Handel mit medizinischen Handschuhen dadurch erschwert, dass die Einfuhrbestimmungen für medizinische Schutzausrüstung seit dem Höhepunkt der Pandemie in den USA ausgesetzt sind.

Nitrilhandschuhe seien »derzeit die gefährlichste Ware auf der Welt«, zitiert der Sender Douglas Stein, einen Branchenexperten. Es gebe »einen endlosen Strom schmutziger, gebrauchter und minderwertiger Handschuhe, die in die USA gelangen«. Das »enorme Ausmaß« würden die Bundesbehörden offenbar erst jetzt begreifen.

Laut CNN haben thailändische Behörden allein in den letzten Monaten mehr als zehn Razzien durchgeführt.
