US aims to destabilise India during Lok Sabha elections 2024, claims Russia
NEW DELHI: Russia on Wednesday claimed that the United States tried to “unbalance” the Indian politics by making it “harder to have the general parliamentary elections.”
Speaking at a press briefing, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “They (US) tried to unbalance the political situation in India in order to make it harder to have the general parliamentary elections.”
“That is part of meddling into India’s domestic affairs”, Zakharova added.
Calling out on Washington for being a “repressive regime”, the spokeswoman that the US is “not respecting India’s state”, further adding that this “stems from the colonial mindset during the times of slavery and imperialism”.
“It is hard to imagine more repressive regime than Washington”, she said.
Zakharova was responding to accusations against an Indian official of a foiled “assassination’ plot in the killing of pro-Khalistan leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, and the American news publication.
“According to the information we have, Washington has not yet provided any reliable evidence of the involvement of Indian citizens in the preparation of the murder of a certain GS Pannun. Speculation on this topic in the absence of evidence is unacceptable,” she said.
“‘The Washington Post’, it seems to me, should use the term ‘repressive regime’ and everything you quoted in relation to Washington. It is hard to think of a more repressive government than Washington, in both domestic and international matters. Now directly about your question,” she said.
The Washington Post had released a report indicating the involvement of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official in the alleged assassination attempt of Pannun.
Describing it as an “unwarranted and unsubstantiated” imputation on a “serious matter” that is under investigation, ministry of external affairs had said that the US media report was “speculative and irresponsible”.
