AT&T, Verizon raising prices on some phone plans starting this week

(NEXSTAR) – Some Verizon and AT&T customers are about to see their phone bills get more expensive in the coming weeks.

Starting March 1, customers on certain older unlimited plans will be hit with a price increase of $4 per month, per line. The increase will take effect with customers’ first bill cycle that comes on or after March 1, a company spokesperson told Nexstar.

Prices for Verizon’s newer “myPlan platform” will stay the same, the company said.

The price hike follows recent moves by AT&T and T-Mobile to raise some of their prices, as well.

AT&T – which made national headlines last week for a major service outage – announced it would be raising the price of many of its unlimited and “value” phone plans by 99 cents per month, per line.

AT&T told CNET those changes would kick in starting March 5, and would come with some added benefits to customers, such as increased hotspot data or additional lines (depending on phone plan).

Meanwhile, T-Mobile’s most recently confirmed price hike doesn’t impact cell phone plans. Last month, they bumped up the price of home internet for new customers from $50 to $60, CNET reported.

However, late last year, T-Mobile starting prompting a test group of customers to switch to more expensive plans. The customers would be changed over to pricier plans unless they opted out, USA Today reported in October. The news spread on social media as influencers warned people to double check their plans, opt out and avoid paying more.
