NYC civil service exam: These applications are open in February

Feb. 11—STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) has released its February application schedule for civil service exams.

Open, competitive, computer-based tests are administered throughout each month for various positions. If you meet the basic requirements of the job, you can apply for your exam online at Online Application System (OASys) or at one of the Computer-Based Testing and Application Centers (CTAC).

This month’s application period opened Feb. 7 for the following positions: bricklayer; landmarks preservationist; motor vehicle supervisor; paralegal aide; police officer; sanitation enforcement agent; school business manager; sewage treatment worker; supervising housing groundskeeper; supervisor of electrical installations and maintenance; traffic enforcement agent.

The deadline for most exams is Feb. 27.

The deadline for call center representative, which opened last month, also remains open through Feb. 27.

New York City employs hundreds of thousands of people in its 80 agencies. Taking a test is the way to get started in the hiring process for most of these positions. Application fees range from $40 to $101.

All examination and eligible list-related notifications are sent by email only; you will no longer receive notifications via U.S. mail.

On Staten Island, the testing center is located at 135 Canal St., Stapleton. Additional testing centers are located at: 2 Lafayette St., Manhattan; 210 Joralemon St., Brooklyn; 118-35 Queens Blvd., Queens; 1932 Arthur Ave., the Bronx.

After an exam is administered, it generally takes nine to 12 months for an eligible list of passers to be established from which agencies can hire, according to DCAS.
