"UP Days of Remembrance" lilinawin ang myths and misinformation sa martial law at rehimeng Marcos

Ngayong September 21, 2021 ang ika-49 anibersaryo ng paglagda ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos sa Proclamation No. 1081, kung saan isinailalim ang buong Pilipinas sa batas militar o martial law.

Tinaguriang diktador si Marcos dahil sa batas militar na ipinatupad nito mula September 21, 1972 hanggang January 17, 1981.

Bagamat 1981 ang official lifting ng martial law, nanatili ang mga Presidential Decrees ni Marcos hanggang 1986.

Napatalsik ang diktadurya ni Marcos nang maganap ang makasaysayang EDSA Revolution o People Power noong February 1986.

Ipinatapon siya ng Estados Unidos papuntang Hawaii upang makaligtas sa galit ng mga taong dumagsa sa Malacañang.

Mula 1972 hanggang 1981, ayon sa 1982 report ng Amnesty International, 70,000 katao ang ikinulong, 34,000 ang na-torture, at 3,240 ang pinatay sa Pilipinas.

Ang Amnesty International ay isang non-profit global movement ng mahigit 7 milyong kataong nangangampanya para sa isang mundo kung saan ang human rights ay tinatamasa ng lahat.

Sa ulat ng inquirer.net noong September 17, 2017, tinataya na ang kabuuang ill-gotten wealth ni Marcos sa pamamagitan ng dummies, cronies, at secret accounts sa foreign banks ay aabot sa US$5 hanggang US$10 bilyon.

Gayunpaman, makalipas ang 49 na taon, patuloy pa rin ang kasinungalingan, maling impormasyon, at pilit na pagretoke sa kasaysayan ng martial law at ng rehimeng Marcos sa iba’t ibang media platforms.

Ngayong linggo, ang mga iskolar ng history at ng social sciences mula sa University of the Philippines (UP) at iba pang unibersidad dito sa Pilipinas at sa ibang bansa ay makikipagtulungan sa mga human rights activists “to set the record straight.”

Sa pamamagitan ng UP Days of Remembrance ay  tatalakayin ng grupo ang mito ng martial law at ng rehimeng Marco na sa panahon ngayon ng social media ay lalo pang nabuhay.

Ito ang magsisilbing virtual commemoration ng UP na tatagal nang isang linggo at naglalayong kilalanin ang paghihirap ng Pilipino sa ilalim ng isang pasistang rehimen.

Gaganapin ito mula September 20-24, 2021, 9:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M.

May temang “Dambana ng Gunita: Mga Batayang Katotohanan at Aral ng Batas Militar”, magkakaroon ng malalimang pagtalakay sa mahahalagang isyu na madalas maging target ng maling impormasyon, gaya ng:

  1. ang kine-claim na kabayanihan ni Marcos;
  2. ang diumano’y mapayapang lipunan sa panahon ng martial law;
  3. ang katotohanan kaugnay ng paglabag sa mga karapatang pantao sa ilalim ng rehimeng Marcos;
  4. ang kathang-isip na “economic golden age” sa ilalim ng mga Marcos;
  5. at ang walang pakundangang katiwalian at “cronyism” ng administrasyong Marcos kaya nalugmok ang ating ekonomiya sa loob ng mahabang panahon.

Isasagawa ito sa pamamagitan ng edukasyunal na talakayan at dayalogo kung ano talaga ang mga naganap sa madidilim na taon ng rehimeng Marcos.

Ang UP Days of Remembrance ay isang annual event na naglalayong mapangalagaan ang mga pangalan at pakikibaka ng pinakamahuhusay at pinakamatatalino ng UP na nakipaglaban, naghirap, at ginawa ang pinakamalaking sakripisyo sa ngalan ng kalayaan at mga prinsipyo ng demokrasya.

Noong 2018, nilagdaan ni UP President Danilo L. Concepcion ang Proclamation No. 1 na idinideklara ang buwan ng Setyembre kada taon bilang UP Days of Remembrance.

Isinasagawa rito ang mga pagtuturo, miting at mga seremonya sa buong UP System para kilalanin ang naging kontribusyon ng unibersidad sa mga naging pagsisikap ng buong bansa na labanan ang diktadurya at pagmamalabis ng mga Marcos.

Ang UP Days of Remembrance ay bukas para sa lahat ng estudyante, guro, edukador, historians, scholars, at lahat nang mamamayan na nagnanais ipagpatuloy ang kaalaman tungkol sa kasaysayan ng ating bansa at naniniwala sa kahalagahan ng pagpapanatili at pagtatanggol para sa ating mga batayang karapatan, kalayaan bilang mga mamamayan at karapatang pantao.
