‘United for our soldiers’: Leaders across party lines condemn Poonch terror attack
Leaders across party lines joined in condemning the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch which killed Air Force personnel and injured four others.
According to military sources, two vehicles carrying the IAF personnel came under fire from terrorists around 6 pm on Saturday, when they were near Shahsitar. The injured personnel were evacuated to Udhampur for treatment on IAF choppers, where one of them succumbed.
Calling the attack “shameful and cowardly”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences to the family of the martyred soldier and prayed for the recovery of the injured soldiers.
“The cowardly and terrorist attack on our Army convoy in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely shameful and sad. I pay my humble tribute to the martyred soldier and express my condolences to his bereaved family. I hope that the soldiers injured in the attack recover as soon as possible,” he wrote in a post on X.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said he was “deeply pained by the cowardly terror attack” and asserted that the country stood united for the soldiers.
“Deeply pained by the cowardly terror attack on the IAF vehicle in Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir. We strongly and unequivocally condemn this dastardly terror attack and join the nation in standing together against terrorism. Our deepest condolences to the family of the brave air warrior who made the supreme sacrifice,” he wrote on X.
Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a post on X, said that those responsible for the atrocious act will face the full force of justice.
“I vehemently denounce the cowardly assault on the @IAF_MCC convoy in Poonch by terrorists, resulting in injuries to four courageous Air Force personnel. Wishing them a swift and complete recovery. Those responsible for this atrocious act will face the full force of justice,” the Assam CM said.
Aam Adami Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also condemned the attack, calling it “despicable, shameful and cowardly act of the terrorists”.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured soldiers.
“Very sad news is coming from Poonch that terrorists have attacked an Air Force convoy, in which some brave Indian soldiers have been injured and one soldier has been martyred. This is a very despicable, shameful and cowardly act of the terrorists,” he said, in a Hindi post on X.
On Sunday morning, search and cordon operations were underway in the area.
