Unibail shopping centers still well below old level

URW has 85 shopping centers worldwide, four of which are in the Netherlands. Total revenue in the third quarter was 92% of the level of the same quarter in 2019. Due to the lockdowns last year, a comparison with a year ago is of little use.

The number of visitors in the third quarter was 80% lower than in 2019. The Netherlands was in the rear with 69%.

Because the shops are starting to run again, the rent payments from the shopkeepers to URW are also improving. The group was able to collect 88% of the rent in the third quarter. That was 80% in the second quarter.

The group is satisfied with the recovery in turnover and the decline in vacancy in the shopping centres. Vacancy in the US decreased from 14% in June to 11.8% in September. On the European mainland, vacancy rates rose from 5% to 4.9% in that period.

Adjusted earnings per share will amount to “at least €6.75”, URW expects. That is slightly above the 2020 level, taking into account divestments.

For the last quarter of this year, URW, which had a turnover of €1.6 billion in the first nine months of this year, is counting on a further recovery. Retailers could therefore take advantage of the important holiday season.
