UNGA president says meeting climate commitments can't be delayed due to energy crisis

According to Abdulla Shahid, the October 26 forum is expected to bring together representatives of some countries’ leadership, public organizations and businesses

UNITED NATIONS, October 21. /TASS/. It’s impossible to delay the fulfillment of the countries’ commitments on combating climate change on the planet in the face of an energy crisis, President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid told TASS.

“I think we cannot delay the Glasgow conference (due in November — TASS) in any way, because the clock is ticking. It is ticking in a wrong direction. We cannot afford to lose a moment, we have the knowledge, technology, science, we need action. Therefore the urgency of convening this meeting is very important,” Shahid said.

“That is why I am convening on October 26th, high-level climate debates in UN to bring countries together, to unite them, to give them hope, to reach that energy that is required for us to go to Glasgow and make the right decisions,” he stated.

According to him, the October 26 forum is expected to bring together representatives of some countries’ leadership, public organizations and businesses.
